Overview
Tarangire National Park is Tanzania's sixth-largest park and a hidden gem of the Northern Circuit. Named after the Tarangire River that flows through it, this 2,850 square kilometer park is renowned for having the highest concentration of elephants in Tanzania—up to 300 during the dry season.
The landscape is dominated by ancient baobab trees, some over 1,000 years old, creating an otherworldly backdrop for game drives. During the dry season (June-October), wildlife from surrounding areas converges on the Tarangire River, creating spectacular viewing opportunities as animals dig for water in dry riverbeds.
Less crowded than Serengeti and Ngorongoro, Tarangire offers an authentic safari experience with excellent predator sightings, diverse birdlife (over 550 species), and unique ecosystems ranging from swamps to granite ridges.
